Have you ever heard words like this “we will work on culture later, right now we need to focus on Agile practices and getting work done”? As if you can separate the two. When you take an Integral approach, you realize they are working together and coming up at the same time. Sometimes you hear the word ‘co-arising’. As an example, let’s say you want your people to feel empowered to make decisions faster and down at lower levels of the organization to address the business driver of faster delivery of value to your customer. You share your vision for this via some one-way communication format. It doesn’t happen – and you are baffled because you gave the permission. Take a look at the example below. I put the dilemma in the middle of the framework and look at it from all 4 quadrant lenses. I’ve only put one item in each quadrant and there are many more I could attribute to the dilemma!
